FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

Current and upcoming funding opportunities supporting military medical research and defense health innovation.

Supporting Access to Research Funding

Identifying and securing appropriate funding is a critical step in advancing military medical research. Funding opportunities within the government and related federal and civilian organizations are often complex, time-sensitive, and highly competitive.

The Metis Foundation maintains this page as a centralized resource to highlight relevant funding opportunities and help researchers stay informed about active and upcoming submission windows.

Funding Opportunity Listing

  • General Considerations:

The CDMRP application submission process requires Principal Investigators and Business Officials to conduct preliminary registration steps in the electronic Biomedical Research Application Portal, Grants.gov and the System for Award Management prior to executing three steps for successful application submission:

    • Step 1: Submitting pre-applications in eBRAP
    • Step 2: Submitting full applications in eBRAP or Grants.gov
    • Step 3: Verifying application submission in eBRAP

    Eligible Organizations:

Unless otherwise stated in the funding opportunity announcement, extramural non-DOD organizations and intramural organizations within the DOD are eligible to apply, including foreign and domestic organizations, for-profit and non-profit organizations, and public or private entities.

    • Extramural Organization: An eligible foreign or domestic non-DOD organization. Examples of extramural organizations include, but are not limited to, academic institutions, biotechnology companies, foundations, federal government organizations other than the DOD, i.e., intragovernmental organizations, and research institutes.
    • Intramural DOD Organization: Refers specifically to DOD organizations, including DOD laboratories, DOD military treatment facilities, and DOD activities embedded within a civilian medical center.
  • Explore NIH Grant Opportunities:

Researchers can use the NIH-specific filters in this search tool to quickly identify potential funding opportunities of interest in Grants.gov. Starting in October 2025, Grants.gov is the single official source for NIH grant opportunities. Use Grants.gov Subscriptions for notifications of new opportunities. Find NIH Parent Announcements and check Search Tips for NIH Opportunities.
